چکیده
Purpose: One of the problem of sport is the abuse of performance enhancing substances (PES), especially steroids. These substances improve the level of performance of athletes, however, they have many side effects that reduce sports careers and increase physical injuries. The purpose of this research is to investigate the factors that can be used to predict the intention for these substances in young non-professional athletes. For this purpose, the theory of planned behavior was used.

Method: This research is a descriptive-correlation research. The population of this research consisted of young athletes of individual and social sports.

Results: The results of this research showed that there is a negative and significant relationship between the attitude of athletes and the intention to consume PES. In addition, a positive and significant relationship was observed between the subjective norms and perceived behavioral control with the intention to consume PES.

Conclusion: Sports coaches and officials should pay special attention to the intellectual sensitivity of young athletes in their planning. The development of moral-sports norms, attention to fair competition, and proper training regarding PES can help to create a suitable platform for the growth and development of young athletes.
