چکیده | ||
Neuroticism, as a personality dimension, is characterized by a tendency to experience negative emotions such as anxiety, worry, and depression, which can significantly impact an individual’s quality of life. Neurocognitive rehabilitation interventions, including repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) and pharmacotherapy, have emerged as promising therapeutic approaches for improving these conditions. The aim of this study was to examine the effects of rTMS and pharmacotherapy on various aspects of neuroticism in young adults aged 20 to 50 years residing in Tabriz, Iran. In this quasi-experimental study, 60 individuals with neuroticism were randomly assigned to four groups: control, rTMS, pharmacotherapy, and combined treatment. The rTMS group received repetitive stimulation of the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) at 10 Hz frequency with 65–75% motor threshold intensity, while the pharmacotherapy group was treated with selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). The levels of anxiety, depression, and obsessive-compulsive symptoms were measured before and after the interventions using the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI), Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II), and Yale-Brown Obsessive-Compulsive Scale (Y-BOCS). Data were analyzed using ANOVA, ANCOVA, and MANOVA. Findings revealed that the combined treatment was significantly more effective than the individual interventions. Specifically, anxiety scores (F(3, 56) = 39.68, p < .001) and depression scores (F(3, 56) = 22.59, p < .001) significantly decreased in the combined treatment group. However, no significant effects were observed on obsessive-compulsive scores (F(3, 56) = 1.16, p < .001). These findings provide a foundation for future research in the field of neuroticism and its therapeutic approaches. | ||
